SWISHER — It’s that time of year when Cedar Ridge Vineyards starts gathering the grapes that will become wine. This year, the Johnson County vineyard was hoping for a better crop yield than the year before, which was hampered by a difficult start to the growing season.

Once harvested, it doesn’t take long for workers to turn the grapes around and onto shelves.

“I’d say 6, 8, maybe 10 weeks, realistically, these grapes could be in a bottle ready for sale,” said production manager Kolin Brighton on Saturday.

Brighton said it will take into the fall season to clear every vine.

“Typically 3 to 4 weeks. It sort of depends on the weather and how many people show up, but we try to pick at least one, if not two of our varieties every morning, starting on Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
